Matilda Pais-Rivero
Matilda Rivero born Matilda Pais was born in the small island of Cuba where she was raised and later married. When she was 40 years old, Matilda and her family moved to the United States and built a home there. Little did she know that her inspirational life filled with obstacles, sacrifices and happy moments would shape the Spring 2010 collection of her grandson, Jorge Manuel. Now reaching 90, Matilda is responsible for inspiring the designer to interpret many of her life experiences, curious personality traits and peculiar interests into dresses that will adorn the modern and sophisticated bride in 2010. These pages are filled with Jorge Manuel's grandmother's personal details that led the designer through an exciting three-month journey of creating and confecting what has become "his best collection yet!" A Day in August
Matilda was born in the month of August. The summer month inspired the designer to create the first of ten dresses in this collection. The circular bias details at the shoulders and the hips signify the sun rising and setting. “There is a beauty in a sunrise and a sunset I just can’t explain,” recalls Jorge Manuel. This gown was born the same month Matilda was born in, hence the design’s name.
